Winning the Battle of the Bed – The Action Habit

Winning the Battle of the Bed – The Action Habit

Really wanted to share this little insight with you on taking action, and how to really get ahead.

Please try it for 30 days if you’re interested in achieving some amazing things.

Enjoy.

Sometimes people ask me how did I develop such a passion for action?

“How do you get some much done?” I am sometimes asked.

I answered this on a new podcast I was fortunate enough to be featured on yesterday by with Adrian Stewart and thought I would share below.

My thoughts are:

Action drives Output.
Output drives Results.
Results drive Growth
Growth drives Me (important point to make as it’s human behaviour to want to grow).

Taking action is simple.

Here is the process I recommend:

1. Decide what you want
2. Put pressure on yourself to achieve in a specific area (positive pressure, and knowing your weaknesses such as fear of failure, and using them to your advantage)
3. Take action BEFORE the brain has a chance to catch up.

Repeat. Remove your emotions. Remove your story. Remove the judgements and what ‘experts’ tell you (most of which as full of it) and remove everything but ACTION.

Let’s take waking at 5am for example.

I am self employed. And unless I have a meeting with a business associate or an appointment, I can sleep in if I want.

I could sleep all day if I really wanted to (of course there would be consequences to face, but regardless, I could if I wanted to).

But I ‘make myself’ get out of bed, as soon as the alarm goes off.

I never press snooze as I believe this trains you to be weak from the moment your day starts, and I immediately make my bed to get a win right from the get go.

I don’t just ‘close my eyes’ for a second to rest (as I know I will fall back into a slumber and wake up an hour later), and I don’t listen to the stories in my head (more on that later).

Most people don’t have the fortitude to do this.

Most people are stuck in such a routine of pressing snooze because they think they ‘need it’.

I’m gonna let you in on a little secret.

99.999999% of the time, you don’t need it.

Most people sleep far too much and get far too little done because:

  1. They have no direction in life (thus no reason to get up).
  2. They don’t have the discipline to trust in the process and just do. (without letting their brain get in the way)
  3. There is no urgency. They put themselves last and sleep is more important to them than making progress in their lives.

There is no such thing as a ‘morning person’ or a ‘night owl’.

These are trained behaviours.

I know this because I have been labeled as both (by myself) and it wasn’t until I woke up (no pun intended) that realised there ain’t no such thing…you just do what you want to do and therefore reap the rewards of that (or face the consequences).

Let me be perfectly clear, it’s actually very rare that a day goes by where my brain DOESN’T try and trick me into slipping back into a slumber.

Yet within 4-6 minutes of waking up, as I write in my journal and smell my delicious nescafe coffee next to me, I am grateful for having the power and guts to win the battle of the bed.

The realities are, by getting up at 5am, you can shoot light years ahead of your competition.

They are sleeping while you are working on strategies to grow your business.

They are sleeping while you do the inner work on yourself to really propel yourself into the future.

They are sleeping while you knock off 30 minutes of reading per day (30 minutes per day = 30 or so pages (which is easily doable) means 1 regular sized self development book a week…can you imagine the progress you could make with 50 books over the next 12 months??)

This one habit alone is a major game changer.

Try it for 30 days. Tell me it doesn’t work after that. If after 30 days, you follow the a strict protocol and a positive morning routine, you don’t feel a minimum of 3 X better about your progress, I’d be very VERY surprised.

You’ve got nothing to lose.

If you’re at all interested in this stuff, I promise you, you’re going to love what is coming next.

We are planning a major event, and until it’s launch (tomorrow night), all I can say is keep the night of December 14th FREE…you will get ‘Fired Up’.

Get ready….!
